The 2018 New Zealand Inter-Zones Underwater Hockey Championships were held in Wellington on the 14th and 15th April 2018.
As in past years this tournament brought together the top players from their respective regions and the high quality hockey played is a reflection of this.
This tournament also gave several younger players the chance to play hockey at this level and to play against the country’s best – a great experience for them all and the opportunity to further develop their game.
The Women’s final was dominated by the strong Northern A winning 6-1. The Northern B team beat the Southern team 3-0 to win the bronze medal.
The Men’s final was a close event with the scores tied at 2 all after full time and the Northern A scored the winning goal after 5 mins of play in sudden death. Final score was 3-2 to Northern A. Mid-Northern won the bronze medal after beating Southern 5-3.
Game scores and the final placings can be found here.

A special thanks from the tournament organisers for the assistance from the players in helping refereeing at this tournament due to the unforeseen injuries / illness to the referee team. It has shown us that we have a large number of very capable players that can referee at this high level.
