The 2019 South Island Interclub Championships were held on Saturday 3 August at Jellie Park in Christchurch and 11 teams from across the South Island competed in two grades – open and schools grade.
This was a very enjoyable tournament and there was some great hockey played across both grades. What was interesting to see is how the younger players from the Nelsun and Marlborough clubs fronted up when playing in the open grades. The future of these clubs with these players looks very positive.
Congratulation to the Nelsun BOIS and the Dunedin RAMS teams for winning the schools and open grades respectively.
A special note on the players from the James Hargest team – they travelled 8 hours up from Invercargill to Christchurch and return on Sunday to attend this tournament. The joys on their faces when they won the bronze medal were priceless and why we run these tournaments. Thanks Guys.
Also thanks to Josh and Isobel from Chch UWH for their assistance in running this tournament.
